Reuther Archive

Resources drawn from Reuther Library, CSCCE, and personal collections.

Part of Early Childhood History, Organizing, Ethos, and Strategy Project

Located at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, the Reuther Library houses documents that cover the history of the Center for the Child Care Workforce (CCW), from its roots in the 1970s to its transition to the American Federation of Teachers Educational Fund (AFT-EF) in 2002. This collection of more than 50 boxes of archival materials as well as materials found at the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE) and in personal collections tell the story of a teacher-led movement for economic justice. The archives contain research and reports, most notably the 1989 National Child Care Staffing Study and statewide salary surveys; training and professional development materials, including a wide variety of curricula developed during this historic period; planning documents and organizing tools designed for the national Worthy Wage Campaign; various testimonies and speeches outlining policy positions; and a plethora of press clippings and newsletters, as well as correspondence, fliers and pamphlets, photographs, slides, audio-video tapes, and a variety of other memorabilia. We are grateful to the Reuther Library for their support of ECHOES. We invite others who may have collected materials from local campaigns to contact us at cscceinfo@berkeley.edu.
