Are you looking for information on compensation or financial relief policies for the early educator workforce in your state? Do you have information to share?

We invite you to take this short survey (5-10 minutes) if you work for an early care and education (ECE) agency or organization and can provide information on how your state/territory/tribe uses public funding for compensation or financial relief payments to the ECE workforce.

We are compiling information about how states, territories, and tribes are using policy levers and public funding to:

a) improve compensation (wages/benefits) and/or
b) provide financial relief payments for the early care and education (ECE) workforce.

The information collected through the survey will be compiled and made publicly accessible to the ECE community.  Our team will keep updating the tracker and the survey will stay live. If you are an educator, a legislative staff member, in higher education, or otherwise interested in learning more about the information we collect, please stay tuned for announcements about the tracker becoming available to the public.

HOW TO FILL OUT SURVEY

We are asking our partners working on ECE policies in states/territories/tribes to fill out this 5-10 minute survey, which asks specifically about programs and initiatives at the state and local levels that address compensation (wages and/or benefits) and provide financial relief payments to the ECE workforce.

Please add individual programs separately. We know that states may be implementing many programs or approaches to tackle these issues. When filling out the form, you will have the opportunity to report on as many as five separate programs/initiatives. The form also provides an opportunity to link to websites and/or related documents to provide more details. If you have more than five programs to report or would like to provide additional information about any programs, please email us at krista.olson@berkeley.edu; please include “compensation tracker” in the subject line.

You can update the tracker as needed. Our research team will create and update a publicly accessible 50-state tracker (including territories and tribes) to make progress visible and share successful strategies. The survey will stay live, so any participant can update the tracker. You can even indicate in the survey that you would like a reminder from our team to fill it out again at a future date after relevant policy decisions are released. You will also have the opportunity to provide contact information, in case we have questions about a specific strategy. HOW TO USE THE TRACKER IN YOUR WORK

The research team at CSCCE will collate this information and make it accessible to ECE policymakers and advocates working on issues related to compensation and economic justice for early educators. We hope the tracker will be useful across the field by sharing what works, barriers to implementation, and statewide progress on this critical issue. Access will be made available through CSCCE’s website, and regular updates will be provided. If you haven’t already, please sign up for CSCCE’s mailing list to stay informed.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Researchers at the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE) are gathering information from early care and education (ECE) organizations/agencies in states, territories, and tribes. We aim to learn how they are using policy levers and public funding to improve compensation (wages/benefits) and to provide financial relief payments for the early care and education (ECE) workforce.

Recent federal investments in ECE as part of recovery and relief efforts present an opportunity to raise compensation for early educators and ECE professionals. These relief packages include key provisions for ECE and specifically allow for efforts to address persistently low compensation. With your help, we are compiling data on efforts by states, territories, and tribes to increase wages, provide benefits, and/or provide financial relief payments to ECE staff using federal relief funds (CARES, CCRSA, ARPA) as well as other federal and state ECE funding.

CSCCE will compile this information into a publicly accessible tracking tool for use by ECE stakeholders and decision makers. We will also use this information to inform further research efforts to understand and document:

  • How these compensation efforts are working;
  • What barriers exist to successful implementation;
  • The impact these efforts are having on the ECE workforce, children, and families; and
  • How these efforts are being leveraged for or integrated into broader and/or longer-term reform.
