Elena has nearly a decade of experience in the early education field, having worked as a child care provider and a researcher. Prior to joining CSCCE in 2015, she conducted research on child care availability, need, and costs at the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network, where she led the California Child Care Portfolio and the Data Standardization Project. Elena later joined Children Now, where she oversaw the California Report Card project and served as the California state coordinator for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s KIDS COUNT project. Through these roles, Elena developed her interest in research and policy work focused on improving the conditions of the early education workforce. Elena holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Texas and a California multiple subject teaching credential.
